“The Steamboat Institute promotes America’s first principles and inspires active involvement in the defense of liberty.”
Here at the Steamboat Institute, we are Defenders of Freedom and Advocates of Liberty. We are admirers of the bravery and rugged individualism that has made this country great. We are admirers of the greatness and wisdom that resides in every individual. We understand that this is a great nation because of its people, not because of its government. Like Thomas Jefferson, we would rather be, “exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than those attending too small a degree of it.”
The Steamboat Institute is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, non-partisan educational organization, founded in 2008 and based in Colorado. We are proud of our contributions to the marketplace of ideas on issues of national significance. Our focus is on educating people – especially our next generation of leaders – on the principles and policies that enhance individual freedom, free speech, free markets, prosperity, and opportunity for all.
Steamboat Institute’s Annual Freedom Conference draws a capacity audience from across America to the spectacular Rocky Mountain resort setting of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and features our nation’s leaders in government, military, education, media, journalism, entertainment, and business. The retreat-like setting encourages collaboration and innovation among our speakers and guests on the important policy issues facing our nation. And, we’re pretty sure that we are the only public policy conference to include a scenic gondola ride to the keynote dinner at the top of a mountain, a margarita party, and an outdoor concert at the base of a ski hill!
Through our Campus Liberty Tour, Steamboat Institute brings fair and reasoned debates and discussions to college campuses across America. With our high-profile speakers and emphasis on civilized debate and discourse, Steamboat Institute engages and persuades thousands of young people of the value of capitalism in fostering freedom and prosperity by:
- Hosting debates and discussions on college and university campuses across America on fundamental issues facing our nation
- Exposing students to another point of view – teaching them how to think, not what to think
- Featuring high-profile speakers, with emphasis on civilized debate and discourse
- Reaching thousands of young people in person – and millions afterward through media and ongoing conversation
- Using persuasion and reason to change perspectives on key issues, such as socialism and capitalism
